littleBits Individual Bits - MP3 player

The MP3 player Bit allows you to play your very own MP3 files using littleBits. Sending a signal to the MP3 player can make it work as a media player, sampler, or looper. Just load the MP3 files you want onto the provided SD card and you'll have music and sound effects in your next littleBits invention in no time.

How it works

The MP3 player reads MP3 files off the SD card underneath the Bit. Tracks play in numerical order, so put a number in front of each file name to choose the order. Use the "back" and "forward" buttons to switch tracks (double-click "back" mid-song to go to the previous track). Playback is started by sending a pulse or latch to the Bit's input, and what happens next depends on the mode:

• Once: plays the selected track once, like a retrigger sampler; a pulse during playback restarts it.
• Loop: plays the same track repeatedly; the next pulse or latch stops it.
• Next: each new input pulse starts the next track in the queue.
• All: plays every track on the card in order, like a traditional MP3 player; input pulses stop and resume playback.

Pressing "back" and "forward" together adds 12 dB of gain if the maximum volume is not loud enough; press both again to return to normal. Audio goes out through the headphone jack or the output bitSnap; when headphones are plugged in, no audio is sent through the bitSnap.
