Cytron Maker Reflect is a tiny infrared (IR) reflectance sensor for beginners. An IR LED shines light onto a surface and a phototransistor measures how much is reflected back; the module outputs an analog voltage, which is lower when more IR is reflected (white surface) and higher on a dark surface. It connects directly to a microcontroller's analog input.
It is typically used in line-following robots, since white surfaces reflect more IR than black ones. Other uses include:
- Edge/border sensor in sumo robots
- Wall sensor in maze-solving robots
- Short-distance object (presence) detector
- Sensor for a rotary wheel encoder
Specifications
| Operating voltage | 3.3V and 5V compatible |
|---|---|
| Sensing distance (height) | 1mm to 40mm (Vcc = 5V, black line on white surface) |
| Output | Analog voltage (white surface = lower voltage) |
| Connection | 3 pins: VCC, GND, OUT |
| Dimensions | 18.1 × 8.4 × 4.2 mm (excluding header pins) |
A mounting hole at the centre lets the sensor sit at the front-most position of a robot, which is especially useful on sumo robots.
