Octopus Soil Moisture Sensor

The ELECFREAKS Octopus Soil Moisture Sensor (EF04027) reads the amount of moisture present in the soil surrounding it. It passes a small current through its two metal probes and measures the resistance: wet soil conducts better than dry soil. It is a low tech sensor, but it is ideal for monitoring an urban garden, or your pet plant's water level. This is a must have tool for a connected garden.

It uses the standard Octopus 3-pin connector, so it plugs into a micro:bit expansion board such as the Octopus:bit, or into Arduino boards through a Freaduino sensor shield. In MakeCode for micro:bit, add the iot-environment-kit extension (search for "iot" under Extensions) to read it.
